INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

The City of Mt. Pleasant would love to find a knowledgeable, motivated, and team-oriented information technology professional to fill the position of Information Technology (IT) Specialist. The successful candidate will enjoy working in an environment which values and appreciates the contributions of staff, solves problems through innovative approaches, and is always looking for a better way to service the IT needs of the Mt. Pleasant employees and our customers.

The IT Specialist is a confidential, hourly, at-will position, and functions as a member of the information technology team, which is located within the Finance Division for the City. The IT Specialist reports to the Director of IT and works closely with the IT Systems Administrator, as well as City staff across all departments. This position works within the Professional, Administrative, Confidential and Technology (PACT) employee group.

The major areas of responsibility include supporting key Citywide software applications, including installation, trouble shooting, problem recognition, and resolution with primary focus on end user technical support. The position maintains the computer system’s performance with emphasis on workstations, desktops, laptops, and peripherals, including; installation, set-up, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and upgrading all hardware and equipment. Successful candidates will possess strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills, be a person of high integrity, have the ability to work with confidential and sensitive information and truly enjoy working in a team-based environment. Solid communication skills are vital to the success of this position.

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and Information Technology with end user support work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted. Website maintenance experience preferred.

Mt. Pleasant is a growing and financially stable community located in the geographic center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. We are a warm and friendly community dedicated to retaining our small-town traditions while building a vital economy. The area population officially stands at 26,016, but can swell to two or three times that number due to special events and the approximate 30,000 daily visitors to the Soaring Eagle Resort and Casino located at the east City limits.

We are also home to Central Michigan University’s 27,000 plus students and many of its employees. CMU offers more than 170 programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Specialist Degree levels, as well as their Medical School. Mid-Michigan College has a Mt. Pleasant Campus for those who wish to transfer to a university or prepare for a career in health, business or industrial technologies. In addition, five other colleges and/or universities are within 45 miles of Mt. Pleasant. This community is dedicated to education and offers seven neighborhood schools, one middle school and two high schools. In addition, there is one parochial and two charter schools.

The Mt. Pleasant community provides an abundance of recreational and cultural opportunities ranging from hockey to chamber music concerts. Golfers are especially pleased with the 13 courses available within a 30-minute drive. The City Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of recreational programs for all ages, including youth soccer, softball, golf, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. In addition, the City operates and maintains 11 parks comprising 300 acres, offering venues for picnicking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The Isabella County park system adds another 900 acres with similar opportunities as well as camping and cross-country skiing.

Hiring range is mid to high $40’s depending on qualifications and experience.
