The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking resumes from friendly, customer service focused, problem solving individuals with a comprehensive background in general administrative skills. The Senior Executive Assistant is a salaried non-exempt, at-will employee who coordinates, facilitates and handles a wide variety of clerical tasks, which support and assist the efficiency and effectiveness of the Human Resource Department. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position directly and indirectly supports and assists all City departments with the recruitment, hiring, benefits and onboarding of staff. The Human Resources Department consists of a Director, a Human Resource Consultant/Safety Officer, a Payroll Specialist and the Senior Executive Assistant.

The Senior Executive Assistant works with employment applicants and City staff on a daily basis, therefore this person must be flexible, professional, approachable, communicate clearly and have the ability to easily adjust from one task to another, while remaining focused and detail oriented. Due to the nature of work within the Human Resources Department the ability to keep items confidential, professionally handle sensitive information and treat everyone in a fair and equal manner is critical and required.

This position will oversee, update and manage the personnel records (paper and electronic), the record retention plan, the BS&A HRIS, all employee changes such as wage adjustment, union contract updates, negotiation minutes, labor management schedules and various organizational tasks. In addition, this position will be the main back-up for the Senior Executive Assistant within the City Manager’s office on an as needed basis. Working closely with the Payroll Specialist this position actively updates electronic data and partners to track and implement employment related changes as necessary within our shared HR and Payroll BS&A database system. The Senior Executive Assistant will lead the City Wellness Committee and work closely with our Health Coach on events and scheduling. On an annual basis this position will handle our Employee Recognition process and work with a committee to set-up, carry out and take down various events and training sessions provided to employees.

Advanced education beyond high school is required, such as office information systems, office professional, management or related field with a minimum of five years of responsible clerical support, office management and/or work within a municipal or public service setting or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience sufficient to meet the required knowledge, skills and abilities. An Associate Degree in Business and formal entry level training within the Human Resource field, is preferred. The successful candidate must be highly proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite or similar word processing, spreadsheet and database computer software and must possess the ability to learn and apply new software applications. Skilled in providing superior confidential office/administrative support requiring flexibility, sound judgment, initiative, discretion, and tact at all times. Able to deliver strong oral/written communication and composition skills and interact professionally with internal and external customers through correspondence, in person, or via phone.

Mt. Pleasant (SEV $532 million) is a growing and financially stable community located in the geographic center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. The City is a warm and friendly community dedicated to retaining its small town traditions while building a vital economy. The area population officially stands at 26,016. When hosting special events, the population can swell to two or three times that number along with the approximate 30,000 daily visitors to the Soaring Eagle Resort and Casino located at the east City limits.

Pleasant Campus for those who wish to prepare for a career in health, business, or industrial technologies or transfer to a university. In addition, five other colleges and/or universities are within 45 miles of Mt. Pleasant. This community is dedicated to education and offers seven neighborhood schools, one middle school, and two high schools. There is one parochial and two charter schools. Downtown Mt. Pleasant boasts over 135 businesses that include remarkable specialty shops, art galleries, excellent and eclectic dining establishments, bars and bistros.

The Mt. Pleasant community provides an abundance of recreational and cultural opportunities ranging from hockey to chamber music concerts. Golfers are especially pleased with the 13 courses available within a 30-minute drive. Offering a wide range of recreational programs for all ages, the City Parks and Recreation Department operates and maintains 11 parks comprising 300 acres, offering venues for picnicking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The Isabella County park system adds another 900 acres with similar opportunities as well as camping and cross-country skiing.
