The City of Mt. Pleasant values the individual contributions of each team member and encourages employees to seek professional growth and the highest level of certification.  If you are looking for an organization where you can realize the professional growth that you aspire to, the following information may be of interest to you.

We are seeking applications and resumes from strong leaders who are energetic, self-directed, team-oriented and flexible to fill the position of Water Treatment Plant Superintendent.  If you have a passion for the water treatment industry, this is a great opportunity for you.  You will receive several months of mentoring, as you work alongside the current Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, prior to his retirement.  The training and institutional knowledge you will have access to creates a unique opportunity.

The Mt. Pleasant Water Department is staffed by one Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, one Assistant Water Treatment Plant Superintendent (currently vacant due to a retirement) and seven Water System Operators.  The plant operates two shifts, seven days a week.  The department maintains 100 miles of water main and a treatment plant that is a state-of-the art facility, which began operation in December of 1995.  The plant is an 8MGD lime/caustic softening plant that is operated using a SCADA system.  The Water System Operators operate and maintain the water treatment plant, the water distribution system, three well fields, two reservoirs, two elevated tanks, and a high service pump station.

The normal business hours for the water department are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  This is a salaried exempt position and can be expected to work a minimum of 45 to 50 hours a week.  Starting salary is in the upper $60’s, depending on qualifications.  There is the potential for an increase in salary once the selected candidate becomes the primary Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, following the retirement of our current Superintendent.

Successful candidate must be able to adapt and accept change in priorities with ease; provide guidance and direction with a strong team in a fast-paced environment, work with others to develop efficiencies within the department and across department lines, be flexible, analytical, organized, and capable of working on multiple projects and issues concurrently; provide excellent customer service and leadership.  Must be passionate about water treatment, possess a strong knowledge of water treatment processes, distribution best practices and MDEQ regulations, as well as have a sense of humor and strong communication skills.

The City of Mt. Pleasant offers a competitive fringe benefit package; including a cafeteria plan which offers medical, prescription, dental, vision and life insurance; a MERS pension, available deferred compensation program, flexible spending accounts, educational support, and wellness benefits.
