We are seeking applications and resumes from strong leaders who are energetic, self-directed, team-oriented and flexible to fill the position of Water Treatment Plant Superintendent. You will receive several months of mentoring, as you work alongside the current Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, prior to his retirement. The Mt. Pleasant Water Department is staffed by one Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, one Assistant Water Treatment Plant Superintendent (currently vacant due to a retirement) and seven Water System Operators. The plant operates two shifts, seven days a week. The department maintains 100 miles of water main and a treatment plant that is a state-of-the art facility, which began operation in December of 1995. The plant is an 8MGD lime/caustic softening plant that is operated using a SCADA system. The Water System Operators operate and maintain the water treatment plant, the water distribution system, three well fields, two reservoirs, two elevated tanks, and a high service pump station.
The normal business hours for the water department are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a salaried exempt position and can be expected to work a minimum of 45 to 50 hours a week. Starting salary is in the upper $60’s, depending on qualifications. There is the potential for an increase in salary once the selected candidate becomes the primary Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, following the retirement of our current Superintendent.
Successful candidate must be able to adapt and accept change in priorities with ease; provide guidance and direction with a strong team in a fast-paced environment, work with others to develop efficiencies within the department and across department lines, be flexible, analytical, organized, and capable of working on multiple projects and issues concurrently; provide excellent customer service and leadership. Must be passionate about water treatment, possess a strong knowledge of water treatment processes, distribution best practices and MDEQ regulations, as well as have a sense of humor and strong communication skills.

CMU offers more than 170 programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Specialist Degree levels, as well as their Medical School. Mid-Michigan Community College has a Mt. Pleasant Campus for those who wish to transfer to a university or prepare for a career in health, business or industrial technologies. In addition, five other colleges and/or universities are within 45 miles of Mt. Pleasant. This community is dedicated to education and offers seven neighborhood schools, one middle school and two high schools. In addition, there is one parochial and two charter schools.
The Mt. Pleasant community provides an abundance of recreational and cultural opportunities ranging from hockey to chamber music concerts. Golfers are especially pleased with the 13 courses available within a 30 minute drive. The City Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of recreational programs for all ages, including youth soccer, softball, golf, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. In addition, the City operates and maintains 11 parks comprising 300 acres, offering venues for picnicking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The Isabella County park system adds another 900 acres with similar opportunities as well as camping and cross-country skiing.
