Downtown Summer Event Intern

Are you a current college student with a major or minor in recreation and event management? Are you required to complete an internship as part of your coursework?

If you are a knowledgeable, motivated, and service oriented student with a desire to experience and contribute to a successful community event program, the Downtown Development office in the City of Mt. Pleasant may have an internship opportunity for you. Your skills and education will be put to use as you work side by side and gain real-world experience with well-respected and successful special event professionals all while planning and delivering quality event opportunities to the Mt. Pleasant community.

General Summary: Under the general direction of the Downtown Special Event Coordinator:

  • Work with Special Event Coordinator to organize event logistics;
  • Event planning, promotion, and on-site execution including set up and tear down;
  • Create and maintain up-to-date event documents including site-schedule forms and action plans;
  • Procure and organize supplies for events;
  • Position will shadow department staff, offer input into projects, will be invited to meetings, and may be asked to assist other departments;
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: Major or minor in Recreation and Event Management or closely related field with experience in supervising and organizing a variety of programs or events. Must have the ability to work select evenings and weekends as needed; Thursday evenings throughout the summer until 9:00pm; and Saturday evenings in August until 11:00pm. Candidate must be able to work successfully with co-workers, volunteers, participants, parents, and the general public. Must provide own transportation.

Hours Per Week: 20-40
Internship Duration: 15 or 30 weeks
Pay Rate: This is an unpaid internship.
