Parks Intern

Are you a current college student with a major in Parks and Recreation? Are you required to complete an internship as part of your coursework?

If you are a knowledgeable, motivated, and service oriented park or recreation student with a desire to experience and contribute to a successful Parks and Public Spaces program, the City of Mt. Pleasant may have an internship opportunity for you. Your skills and education will be put to use as you work side by side and gain real-world experience with well-respected and successful Parks professionals all while planning and delivering quality Park and Recreation facilities for the Mt. Pleasant community.

General Summary: Under the general direction of the Parks and Public Spaces Supervisors, assists in performing and managing of tasks, projects and routines to provide quality facilities. A Parks Intern will oversee and assist seasonal maintenance employees, schedule day to day tasks, assist Recreation and the Downtown Departments in events, conduct meetings with staff, and perform various administrative duties and additional responsibilities as assigned.

A pre- internship opportunity is available, to work as a seasonal employee outside of the internship timeframe. Candidate could start in April and work around classes.

Minimum Requirements: Major in Recreation or closely related field with experience in supervising and organizing a variety of programs. Must have the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Candidate must be able to work successfully with co-workers, volunteers, participants, parents, and the general public. Adhere to the General Summary, Typical Duties and Minimum Requirements of the City of Mt.Pleasant Seasonal Maintenance Worker. A pre-employment drug screen and physical are required.

Hours Per Week: 40

Internship Duration: 15 or 30 weeks (30 preferred)

Pay Rate: Negotiable Stipend
