Graphic Design Internship/Public Relations Department

We seek an enthusiastic and reliable individual who is knowledgeable in graphic design, and interested in developing career skills. This position is responsible for contributing to various aspects of the City of Mt. Pleasant’s communication efforts.

Required skills:

  • Strong design skills; experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe XD, Illustrator, Constant Contact, Microsoft Office and other marketing platforms.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organizational and computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Professional demeanor for interaction with others via phone, e-mail, or in person.

Desired skills/experience:

  • New media, video, and other related knowledge.
  • Strategic use of social media.
  • Video production equipment; video editing software.
  • Knowledge of local government.

Duties may include:

  • Designing publications for print and the web.
  • Designing graphics for social media and web use.
  • Editing and special projects.
  • Participation in multimedia video shoots and editing.
  • Developing suggested website layouts.
  • Designing web and App User Interfaces (UI).
  • Support and collaboration for communication efforts.
  • Collecting information, research, survey information, and other data on website, social media and other communication tools. Ability to visualize data.
  • Assisting with publications and photography archiving and sharing.

Availability and schedule:
Internships available in fall semester, winter/spring semester and summer. Schedule flexibility offered, but it is requested that interns be consistent once a schedule has been set so assignments can be best allocated. 15-20 hours per week minimum commitment. Regular schedule will be during work hours (8-5) yet some evenings/weekend hours will be necessary. Internship available August 2020-May 2021.

What students will learn:
Interns will gain practical experience in a variety of public relations, multimedia, social media and Web projects and activities. Working in an exciting local government environment, you will work hand-in-hand with the Director of Public Relations to play an active role in communication activities for the City, research statistics and ideas for special projects and media outreach, join in brainstorming sessions, assist with photography and videography efforts, and become engrossed in the day-to-day activities of the public relations office.

Pay rate:
$10.00 per hour.
