General Summary: The Farmers’ Market Assistant under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator/Farmers’ Market Manager oversees daily operations at two, weekly, outdoor open-air farmers’ markets. Mt. Pleasant Farmers’ Market is held at Island Park, Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and City Hall, Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning the first week of June through the last week of October. In addition to weekly market days, the Farmers’ Market Assistant will be responsible for vendor outreach and management, recruitment, farm/vendor visits, customer outreach and marketing, coordinating weekly entertainment, and overseeing volunteers and any associated events held at the market.

Minimum Requirements: Minimum of high school diploma, preferred college degree or coursework in a related field or equivalent experience in marketing and retail, with some knowledge of farming preferred. Ability to work each Thursday and Saturday during the market season. Prior experience with farmers’ markets and/or MIFMA Market Manager Certification is preferred. Knowledge and awareness of farmers’ market operations, business, marketing, management and nutrition, state and local licensing requirements. ServeSafe Certification preferred. First Aid and CPR/AED Certification preferred. Knowledge of Mt. Pleasant community features. Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, flexible. Clear and organized work habits. Ability to collect and analyze data about the market. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work within the established annual budget. Strong computer skills including: MS office applications, Google Docs, electronic and social media marketing. Candidate must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license.

Hours Per Week: Up to forty (40) hours per week from May through October.
