PARKS DEPARTMENT FACILITIES & GROUNDS SEASONAL MAINTENANCE WORKER

Pay Scale: $9.75 to $11.25 Per Hour*
Five (5) to Ten (10) Positions Available

General Summary: Looking for individuals with horticulture or gardening experience, and those with athletic field, painting and grounds-keeping skills. Works under the direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled labor tasks requiring considerable physical effort. Tasks include maintenance of public parks, public spaces, properties and buildings, construction activities, cemetery maintenance, and athletic field maintenance. Individuals with plant and weed identification, annual and perennial care, small shrub pruning knowledge are desired for public spaces in downtown. Operation of light duty trucks, power-driven equipment, and a variety of handheld and small power tools may be required. Performs a variety of cleaning and routine maintenance tasks and other related work.

Minimum Requirements: Education equivalent to completion of eleventh (11th) grade and at least six (6) months general laborer experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of valid Michigan driver’s license and safe driving record; demonstrated proficiency in proper, safe, and efficient use of equipment and methods used in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and recreational activity areas; possession of necessary physical capabilities to safely perform related tasks; ability to maintain positive working relationships with the public, other employees, and alternative labor groups; ability to effectively understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.

Hours Per Week: Varies based on position.

Employment Duration: Varies with start dates in April, May, and June, lasting from twelve (12) weeks to nine (9) months.
