Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation department appreciates our volunteers beyond words. They contribute their time, knowledge, enthusiasm, talents, and past experiences to aid in enhancing the programs and services we offer to our community and visitors.

To volunteer your time or services please follow these steps:

All volunteers must fill out the following prior to volunteer service.


Under the Big Top

A total of (24) twenty-four volunteers are needed for this program. Volunteers assist with games and crafts, photo booth, and registration. Volunteers can come dressed in casual clothes.

Date: Saturday, January 9, 2016

Times volunteers are needed: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Start Smartâ„¢ Tennis

A total of (4) four volunteers are needed for this program. Volunteers assist with coaching children and parents on Tennis skills. (lessons provided) Volunteers can come dressed in athletic clothes.

Dates: Tuesdays, January 19 to February 23, 2016

Times volunteers are needed: 5:15 to 7:30 p.m.

K-2nd Grade Youth Basketball Coach

A total of (15) fifteen volunteers are needed for this program. Volunteers assist with instructing participants on basketball skills. (Lessons Provided) Volunteers can come dressed in athletic clothes.

Dates: Sundays, January 24 to February 28, 2016

Times volunteers are needed: 12 to 4 p.m.

3rd-6th Grade Youth Basketball Coach

A total of (30) thirty volunteer coaches are needed for this program. Volunteers will become coaches for a team and are asked to practice 1-2 times a week at an area elementary school until Sunday afternoon games start. Volunteers are asked to wear athletic attire.

Dates: Sundays, January 24 to February 28, 2016

Times volunteers are needed: Sunday afternoon games between 12 and 5 p.m.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night

A minimum of (30) thirty volunteers are needed for each event. Volunteers assist with registration, coat check, refreshments, flower sales, games and dancing activities. This is a special occasion please dress in black pants and a white shirt OR your Sunday best.

Times volunteers are needed: noon to 5 p.m. and 4:30 to 9 p.m.

Man vs. Mountain

A total of 36 volunteers are needed for this special event. Volunteers assist with obstacles, route guidance, and encouraging the participants as they brave the elements. Volunteers should come dressed in warm apparel. The event is a winter 5K obstacle race and volunteers are expected to be outside from 8:00a.m.-12:00p.m.

Date: Saturday February 6, 2016

Winter Kids Expo

A total of (24) twenty-four volunteers are needed for this program. Volunteers assist with games and crafts, photo booth, and registration. Volunteers can come dressed in casual clothes.

Great Egg Scramble

A minimum of 50 volunteers are needed for this event. Volunteers assist with games, arts & crafts, photos with Peter Cottontail, refreshments, and the Egg Scramble. Volunteers can come dressed in casual clothes.

Times volunteers are needed: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Parks & Recreation will provide pizza for lunch for all volunteers - feel free to bring a friend along!!!!

PEAK

PEAK is looking for dedicated volunteers that desire to work with school-aged youth within a school setting.  We are flexible with individual schedules and time commitments. We can tailor your volunteer schedule to include different types of experiences including small group: work, general programming, tutoring, etc. PEAK is a licensed childcare, therefore certain steps are required to volunteer for the program. Below is a list of these required steps. Once they are complete, return them to the Parks & Recreation office in City Hall, 320 W. Broadway Street. 

  1. Department of Human Services (DHS) Central Records Clearance Letter - This letter certifies there are no substantiated allegations of child abuse or neglect with the Department of Human Services and may be obtained at the Department of Human Services (Family Independency Agency), located at 1919 Parkland Drive, Mt. Pleasant
  2. Print out and complete the Volunteer Packet
  3. If you are planning to volunteer for more than four (4) hours per week for more than two (2) consecutive weeks, you will need a TB test (must be dated within one year).
