Potter Playground Project

barkpark

Potter Playground is a small play-lot area approximately the size of two city lots located at the Southwest corner of Maple and Pine Streets.  The area is owned by Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. In February 2015, the City and MPPS entered into a maintenance agreement to help improve the quality of the playground and upgrade the area to help enhance the esthetics and provide an updated place for residents to play and recreate in the neighborhood.

City Park staff evaluated the facilities and removed an existing playground that had been in place since the late 1980’s and installed an upgraded trash receptacle and replaced the aging fence on the existing kickball/wiffleball field backstop.  Removal of various old concrete slabs and dead and dying ash trees in the facility are planned.

The Parks Department met with interested neighbors of Potter Playground on May 3, 2015 and collected input on desired improvements to the facility.  Parks staff then combined this input into an overall site plan and met again with the neighborhood on July 19, 2015.   As a result of these meetings, the following site plan and three draft options were created.  The Parks Department is asking Potter Playground stakeholders to review the options and site plan and provide feedback by July 29, 2015 by email at parks-rec@mt-pleasant.org or in person at City Hall at 320 W. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant, MI  48858.
