Additional Summer Camp Programs

Counselors in Training (CIT) - June 29 through August 7

Monday through Friday (times same as PEAK camps)
Cost: $150 City resident fee/$200 non-City resident fee
Registration deadline: June 19

The CIT program is a leadership training program for teens ages 14 and 15 years old. It is designed as on-the-job experience where teens will attend trainings and have the opportunity to participate in program activities. They will be rewarded for their hard work with an extra field trip each week. Interested teens must complete this application (also available at the Parks and Recreation Office in City Hall) and participate in an interview process.

CMU Reading Clinic - July 6 through 30

Monday through Thursday - 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Cost: $250/scholarship rate: $100

This summer, CMU is again partnering with the Mt. Pleasant PEAK program to provide intensive, individualized, one-to-one tutoring in reading and writing for kindergarten through eighth grade students. The CMU Summer Reading Clinic will take place at Vowles Elementary July 6 through July 30 from 9 to11:30 a.m. For further information, contact Dr. Xiaoping Li at 989-774-2581, Anyone interested must complete this application (also available at the Parks and Recreation Office in City Hall).

Youth Police Academy - July 13 through 30

Monday through Thursday - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registration Deadline: June 10

The Youth Police Academy is a free program led by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department’s Youth and Community Services Unit for students entering 6th through 8th grades. The academy runs weekdays from July 13 through July 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cadets will gain insight into a career in law enforcement through hands-on activities such as building searches, defensive tactics and emergency response demonstrations. These activities focus on the development of character, discipline and team building skills. Cadets will also participate in several field trips such as the Isabella County Courthouse and jail to learn more about the ethical, physical and day to day operations of law enforcement.
