SWIMMING ANYONE?
As temperatures soar, more and more residents will find relief from the sweltering heat in their own backyard swimming pools.
If you live in the City of Mt. Pleasant and plan to own your own pool, there are certain restrictions and requirements that must be met. Being aware of these requirements BEFORE you purchase your pool will save you a lot of frustration and unwelcome surprises.
The following requirements must be met for all pools with a capacity of over 300 gallons or a depth of 24" or more:
Pool must be at least 10 feet from any side or rear lot line and no pool may be constructed within the front yard or side street side yard of a corner lot.
No lighting or electric wiring may overhang the surface of the water.
The pool must be completely enclosed with a permanent, substantial barrier, no less than four feet in height.
Pool must be equipped with filtration, circulation and purification systems adequate to maintain the water in a clean and healthful condition.
Pool water may not be discharged into sanitary sewer.
In addition to the above requirements, a Zoning Approval Permit is required prior to installing your new pool. Please contact the Department of Building Safety at (989) 779-5302 if you have any questions, or to obtain a permit.
