2008 CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Major Street Projects
• Washington Street (High to Bellows Streets)

The City will be removing the old pavement, storm and sanitary sewer mains, and will be replacing it with new asphalt, curb and gutter, storm and sanitary mains, and sidewalk.

Local Street Reconstruction
• Crescent Street (Glen to Highland)
• Sunset & Meadow (Crescent to Stockman)
• Williams Street (Broadway to Michigan)
• Franklin Street – Lansing Alley – Bellows to the north

The City will be reconstructing the above streets with new pavement between the existing curbs. The project will involve leaving the curb and gutter in place and installing a new street base and asphalt between the existing curb and gutter. The Williams Street and Franklin Street alley sections of the project are special assessments that were petitioned by the property owners.

• Island Park Road South

This project includes the reconstruction of the street with curb and gutter with new storm sewer for drainage. The street work will be combined with the planned replacement of the Oak Street Bridge into a single project to be coordinated with the Parks Department.

Water Main Replacement (*Directional drilling)
• Franklin Street (Mosher to Andre)
• Arnold Street (Gaylord to Bellows)
• Hopkins Street (Preston to Watson)
• Hopkins Street (Watson to Highland)
• Glenwood Street (Lynnwood to cul-de-sac)

*Directional drilling allows pipes to be pulled through drilled holes, under streets and large trees.

Sanitary Sewer Relining*
• East of Mission Street (Maple to Cherry extended)
• Cherry Street extended (East of Anna to Eastlawn)
• West of Mission Street (Bellows to Preston)
• East of Mission Street (North of Andre to north of Palmer)
• East of Mission Street (Gaylord to north of Bellows)
• Michigan Street (Mission to Anna)
 
*Relining is done from existing manholes, eliminating the need to dig up the street.

Sidewalk Replacement
Deteriorated sidewalks will be replaced in conjunction with the Washington Street Reconstruction and the Water Main Replacement projects. Sidewalk on the complaint list will also be replaced.

A new sidewalk has been requested by a petition of the property owners on both sides on Broadway Street from Williams Street to the east City limits.
