Street Numbers on
One- and Two-Family Houses,
Multiple-Family Units,
Commercial and Industrial Buildings
Proper identification of your house or business will insure that
emergency vehicles - police, fire, rescue, medical - can respond to your call
for assistance in the shortest possible time. To make sure your house or
business is easy to find, the address numbers should:
- Be at least 4 inches high (6 inches for commercial or multi-family if
the building is more than 90 feet from the center of the road),
- Be made of a durable material that contrasts with the background
color of the house or building,
- Clearly identify each individual unit of a duplex or multi-family
building,
- Be placed so that the numbers are easily seem from the street -
usually above, on or near the main entrance of the housing unit or
commercial building, or on a separate post by the driveway of the property
if the numbers cannot be seen from the street.
