                Investigation Update

                                 August 5, 2008

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department has concluded the investigation into the Breaking and Entering and Malicious Destruction of Property that occurred at the Sacred Heart Elementary School over the July 4th weekend.  During the investigation and subsequent interviews, four individuals were identified as suspects in this event.  All four suspects are juveniles.  Three of the suspects are 14 years old.  The fourth suspect is 15 years old.  All four suspects have Mt. Pleasant addresses.

The completed investigation was forwarded to the Isabella County Prosecutor’s Office for review on possible charges.  The prosecutor’s office issued juvenile petitions on all four suspects.  Two of the 14 year olds and the 15 year old were petitioned for felony Breaking and Entering and Malicious Destruction of a Building Over $1000.00 But Under $20,000.00.  The remaining 14 year old was petitioned for misdemeanor Breaking and Entering (Illegal Entry).  All four now face possible court proceedings in the Isabella County Courts.

Some of the leads that assisted in the identification of these suspects came from tips from witnesses.  The Mt. Pleasant Police Department would like to thank these individuals for their assistance in closing this investigation.  A private individual offered a reward in this case.  It is up to this individual how and if the reward is dispersed.
