FIRST THINGS FIRST...
You can avoid problems with the police by being aware of state
laws and local ordinances that pertain especially to college-age people:
ATTENDING
A PARTY
-
Use
the "buddy system" when going to and from a party.
-
If
you have friends who are visiting, stay with them. They may not be
familiar with the area.
-
Keep
noise to a minimum when going to and from a party.
-
Use
a restroom, not the great outdoors!
-
Dispose
of your trash properly. Litter really looks bad.

-
Don't
leave a party with somebody you don't know.
-
Avoid
vandalism, fights, or any other conduct that annoys or endangers others or
results in obscene or indecent behavior.
-
You
can be cited or arrested by simply attending a nuisance party.
We Offer These Practical
Party Tips
ALCOHOL
CONSUMPTION
-
It
is illegal to possess open alcohol on sidewalks or city streets.
-
If
you plan on drinking, remember that you are responsible for your actions.
-
NEVER leave your drink unattended or accept a drink from a stranger.
-
If
you think someone has alcohol poisoning, call 911 immediately!
-
ALWAYS
use a designated driver.
IF
YOU EVER HOST A PARTY
-
Inform
your neighbors beforehand, and be honest about the number of people
attending the party.
-
Designate
a sober contact person to oversee the party.
-
Contact
the police and let them know who the contact person is.
-
Keep
music and noise to a minimum.
-
Keep
all people inside your apartment or house.
-
Be
watchful of people leaving your party. If they are highly
intoxicated, you can be held responsible.
-
Pick
up all trash immediately after the party. Your neighbors will
appreciate it, and you will not be fined for the litter.
-
Be
courteous when dealing with neighbors, police officers, or other
enforcement officials.
-
Remember
that police can cite or arrest you for hosting a nuisance party.
