The Street Department is responsible for
maintenance of the sanitary sewer lines throughout the city,
including repair of manholes and periodic cleaning of the
sewer lines. In the event that a residence is experiencing
slow drains or has a sewer backup into the basement, Street
Department personnel will respond by checking the main sewer
line for any blockages or problems.
This service is provided free of charge
and is a recommended first step in diagnosing a sewer
problem. If the main sewer line is free of blockages, the
Street Department will recommend the homeowner contact a
licensed plumber to see if the problem lies in the
property's sewer connection.
To report a possible sewer backup, call
(989) 779-5401. After 4:00 p.m. or during the weekend,
please call (989) 773-1000.
