Mount Pleasant
Wastewater Treatment Plant Profile
The City of
Mount Pleasant Wastewater Treatment Plant is
responsible for treating all residential and
commercial sanitary sewage generated in the City
Limits. Sewage is transported through the
collection system, which includes 15 Lift
Stations to raise the liquid to a level from
which it can flow by gravity to the WWTP. The
WWTP is an advanced secondary plant that
utilizes primary sedimentation, Bio-Towers,
Rotating Biological Contactors, Final
Clarification, chlorination and de-chlorination
for treatment of wastewater. Wastewater
Department staff is responsible for repairs and
maintenance to the equipment at the Plant, as
well as the Lift Stations. Plant Operators also
monitor and perform laboratory analysis on the
sewage as it undergoes treatment at the
Wastewater Plant. The treated sewage must meet
stringent State and Federal Standards before it
can be discharged to the Chippewa River.
This work
is technical and requires training and
dedication. All Plant Operators are required to
hold a minimum of a Class D Wastewater Treatment
license as issued by the State Department of
Environmental Quality. The plant is authorized
eight full-time employees; currently we are
operating with seven. Three staff have obtained
Class A Wastewater Treatment licenses, which is
the highest classification available. Three more
have Class B licenses, and our newest Operator
will write his Class D exam this May. Operators
attend many training courses throughout the year
to stay updated on the industry and to increase
job knowledge.
WWTP staff are
present at the Plant seven days a week from 7:30
AM till 4:00 PM. Problems occurring outside
normal working hours will trigger alarms that
automatically call employees to respond as
needed.
Staff is
available during normal working hours to answer
questions and concerns from our customers. Tours
