Mount Pleasant
Wastewater Treatment Plant Profile
The Mount Pleasant Wastewater Treatment
Plant’s primary responsibility is for the
treatment of all waters that enter the plant to
the best of our ability. We are responsible for
the operation and repair of all equipment
necessary for the treatment of wastewater. We
are also responsible for 15 lift stations
located throughout the City. The WWTP is an
advanced secondary plant that utilizes primary
sedimentation, BioTowers, Rotating Biological
Contactors (RBCs), Final Clarification,
chlorination and dechlorination for treatment of
wastewater. The operation, maintenance, and
repair of the many mechanical and electrical
systems in the plant are the responsibility of
the employees.
The WWTP staff consists of a Superintendent,
Assistant Superintendent, Six Operators and
various seasonal employees during the week. The
Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and two
of the Plant Operators hold the highest
certification the State of Michigan awards for
wastewater treatment: Class “A” Treatment. The
WWTP also has one Class “B” Treatment Operator
and three Class “C” Treatment Operators. All
WWTP Plant Operators must hold the lowest
certification level Class “D” Treatment. We
currently have no one at that level. All
operators are above the minimum level required
by the City and those who have not reached the
highest level continually strive to obtain that
goal.
The Staff at the WWTP also has to implement and
run the BioSolids Program, (Applying Biosolids
to farm fields.) Industrial Pretreatment Program
(Monitoring and inspecting industries located
within the City limits as to what is discharged
to the WWTP to preventing upsets and violations
of the City’s State and Federal Permits), and
various programs required by MIOSHA, OSHA and
Laboratory Certifications.
