The Water Treatment Plant treats and pumps water to the City water distribution system for fire protection and delivery to customers on a seven (7) day a week basis. The actual operating hours of the plant vary with the system's water demand. The plant operates under MDEQ and USEPA regulations to ensure that public health requirements are met. The Water Department staff is responsible for the operation and repair of the equipment to maintain operations. They also perform the laboratory testing required for quality control and to meet state and federal guidelines.

The water distribution system delivers water to residential, industrial, and commercial customers. If an emergency arises, the staff responds 24 hours per day. Water Department staff installs, operates, and maintains the system’s water mains, valves, service leads, meters, and hydrants. Department staff also responds to customer emergencies and inquiries for service, and locates water mains for contractors under the Miss Dig system.
