Thrilling Thursdays return to downtown Mt. Pleasant
June 8, 2018

Beginning June 14, the community is encouraged to make downtown its destination for the return of Thrilling Thursdays! Co-sponsored by Downtown Mt. Pleasant and Isabella Community Credit Union, each Thrilling Thursday features fun activities and offerings designed to engage all members of the family. Thrilling Thursdays begin at 6 p.m. at Town Center, with the exception of the Supersoaker Festivus, which will be held at Island Park.


Coneys for a Cause to occur June 13
June 6, 2018

The community is invited to feast on their favorite local coney dogs while helping the youth of Isabella County at the 13th annual Coneys for a Cause on June 13 at the Pixie Restaurant. All net proceeds will benefit the Mt. Pleasant Police Youth Services Unit (YSU) and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region.


Chippewa Street reconstruction begins June 4
June 1, 2018

Reconstruction of Chippewa Street between Mission and Brown streets will begin Monday, June 4, and continue through Friday, July 13. The road will be closed to through traffic, but businesses will remain open and accessible.


Mt. Pleasant leaders launch community branding initiative; Public input sought through Town Hall event and online survey

Community leaders are issuing an open call for thoughts and opinions with the launch of a Mt. Pleasant community branding initiative. The cornerstone public event will be a Town Hall on June 21 at 7 p.m. at City Hall (320 W. Broadway in Mt. Pleasant). Participants will roll-up their sleeves and expect robust discussion in the form of inclusive, interactive activities. In addition to the Town Hall, a public opinion survey has been created to capture a breadth of perspective. The survey can be found at www.madebydarwin.com/mt-pleasant.


MEDIA ADVISORY – Consumers Energy employees to complete beautification projects in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, June 6

Around 150 Consumers Energy employees will volunteer on Wednesday, June 6, to beautify several locations throughout the City. The volunteers will spend time at Island and Mill Pond parks, as well as at Riverside Cemetery, completing staining and painting projects, spreading wood chips, raking pine needles and more.

Public invited to care for neighborhood playgrounds during “Mulch Madness” on May 19

Isabella Bank sponsors Movies by Moonlight

The City of Mt. Pleasant is pleased to announce Isabella Bank as the 2018 sponsor of Movies by Moonlight. The annual outdoor film series offers residents and visitors of the Mt. Pleasant area an opportunity to bring chairs, blankets and snacks, and settle in on the lawn at City Hall for the movie showings on Saturday evenings throughout August.


City to continue free brush chipping service week of April 23; Reservation deadline is April 19

The City of Mt. Pleasant is extending the no-fee brush chipping service. Up to 23 households within the City limits will receive 30 minutes of free brush chipping during the week of April 23. The service is first come, first served, and residents must make a reservation by contacting the Division of Public Works no later than 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19.


Great Egg Scramble is scheduled for March 24

Hop your way to Finch Fieldhouse (Campus of Central Michigan University – between Bellows and Preston streets) and join Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation, 95.3 WCFX and Graff of Mt. Pleasant for the Great Egg Scramble on Saturday, March 24. The celebration begins at 12:30 p.m. and admission is free. Canned goods will be collected for the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen.


City to offer free brush chipping service during the week of April 9; make a reservation today

The City is offering up to 150 households within the City limits 30 minutes of free brush chipping during the week of April 9. The service is first come, first served, and residents must make a reservation by contacting the Division of Public Works no later than 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 5.


“Bingo Bash” to offer fun for all ages on Feb. 24

Community members of all ages – from the very young to the young at heart – are invited to the Isabella County Commission on Aging on Feb. 24 for “Bingo Bash,” presented by Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation, Commission on Aging and McDonald’s. This free event will allow players as many rounds of Bingo as they desire, with winners advancing to the Bonus Bingo rounds!


Family-friendly event “Under the Big Top” is Jan. 20

Local families are invited to Finch Fieldhouse on Jan. 20 for “Under the Big Top,” a free circus-themed event presented by Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation, the Chippewa River District Library, MY1043 and AM 830 WMMI. From 12 to 1:30 p.m., enjoy exciting performances, midway activities, games and refreshments. Special guests include Ringmaster Big Top Joel Tacey who will display amazing juggling acts on stilts, as well as the Central Michigan University Cheer team!

The Mt. Pleasant Farmers’ Market on Thursday, July 6 will take place in the parking lot at Morey Courts from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The July 6 market was originally canceled due to the flooding that has closed Island Park indefinitely.

Several City parks closed and events canceled following flood
June 27, 2017

Due to extensive flood damage, the City of Mt. Pleasant has closed all of Island Park and Nelson Park, as well as portions of several other City parks until further notice. Additionally, the USA Softball State Tournament scheduled for June 29-July 2 in locations throughout Mt. Pleasant has been canceled; and the Mt. Pleasant Farmers’ Market at Island Park is canceled for both Thursday, June 29 and Thursday, July 6.

USA Softball of Michigan Girls’ State Championship Tournament slides into Mt. Pleasant

The City of Mt. Pleasant’s Parks & Recreation Department will host the 2017 USA Softball of Michigan Girls’ Fastpitch State Tournament June 29 – July 2. A total of 108 Class A teams comprised of age groups 12U through 18U will compete for the state title, and the winning team from each age group will continue on to the prestigious USA National Fastpitch Tournament. Games will be held at Island Park, Pickens Park, Mt. Pleasant High School, Central Michigan University and McDonald Park. Admission is free.

Consumers Energy employees beautify Mt. Pleasant; Present $1500 grant to City

More than 160 Consumers Energy employees gathered at the Borden Building early Wednesday to present the City of Mt. Pleasant with a $1,500 grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation to enhance and maintain local park facilities. The group then spent the remainder of the morning beautifying several public spaces in Mt. Pleasant.


Grand Opening of Timber Town 2.0 set for June 9
