Freakin' Freezing Challenge coming to Mt. Pleasant February 9

EDITOR'S NOTE: Media is welcome to attend and cover this event; there will be several opportunities for photo and video.

The inaugural Freakin' Freezing Challenge is a unique winter-themed 5K obstacle course through Mt. Pleasant's park system that challenges its participants to brave Michigan's brutal elements. The race, which will be held on February 9, will begin at 9 a.m. in Island Park and continue through Nelson and Millpond Parks.

Streets where racers will be present on the sidewalk (no traffic will be affected on these streets):
  • Leaton Street from Fessenden Street to Broadway Streets
  • Broadway Street from Leaton Street to City Hall
  • High Street from Watson Street to Gilroy's Ace Hardware

A police officer will be stationed at Broadway near the railroad tracks by Mountain Town Station as runners will cross there on two separate occasions. Obstacles will be placed in Island, Nelson and Millpond Parks on February 7 yet trails will remain open during that time. The trails in these three parks will be closed to the public from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 9. Download a PDF file of the course map here.

Registration for the event is open until 8 p.m. on February 7. More information can be found at
