City to host community open house April 23

Project planners welcome input on Master Plan update and Mt. Pleasant Center Project

April 12, 2013 - City residents and other community members have an opportunity to provide input on the City’s Master Plan update and the results of the Mt. Pleasant Center Highest and Best Use Study at a community open house April 23. The open house will be held in the City Hall Commission Chambers 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The updated Master Plan will offer a future land use map, goals, and action items that will be used to guide planning and zoning decisions in the future. The City began the Master Plan update process in late 2012 and it is expected to be complete by the end of 2013. The update involves work and community input on things such as: economic development and the redevelopment of Mission Street; neighborhood priorities; action items for Downtown; and developing an overall implementation plan. The results from the Highest and Best Use Study for the Mt. Pleasant Center property will help the City determine the best future plan for the redevelopment of the site. These results will be presented by global real estate firm CBRE at a special meeting of the City Commission and Planning Commission on April 15 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Commission Chambers. A video of the presentation will be available on the City’s YouTube channel following the meeting. Click here or visit www.mt-pleasant.org/thecenter to learn more about Mt. Pleasant Center Project.

“Visitors are encouraged to stop by, even if it is only for 10 to 15 minutes, to learn about the Master Plan Update, view maps and other information, take a survey and provide their input,” said Jeff Gray, Director of Planning and Community Development. “City staff and project planners will be available to discuss ideas about this as well as the results of the Mt. Pleasant Center study.”

Anyone interested in sharing their input on this discussion is welcome to attend and refreshments will be provided.
