Welfare check leads to Police chase
September 15, 2017

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 15, Mt. Pleasant Police responded to a call requesting a welfare check on an individual in the parking lot of Meijer who was undressing himself and banging on his car. When officers arrived at the scene, a man matching the description of the individual jumped into his vehicle and fled northbound on Mission Street. The man proceeded to drive north on Old U.S. 27 to Jordan Road before crashing his car on the railroad tracks. The subject exited the vehicle and a foot pursuit ensued into a nearby cornfield.

Mt. Pleasant man leads police on chase
August 24, 2017

On Aug. 24, 2017 at approximately 2:31 a.m., a City police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for suspicion of drunk driving. The driver, Charles Artibee, a 23-year-old man from Mt. Pleasant, failed to stop. A pursuit ensued for several blocks until the suspect pulled into a driveway in the 800 block of Brown Street, parking partly on the sidewalk and front lawn of a residence. The driver attempted to exit the vehicle quickly and walk away from the officer, but then complied with the officer’s request to stop. Artibee admitted to drinking and failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .16 percent. Artibee was taken into custody for Fleeing and Eluding, and Operating While Intoxicated.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest
July 11, 2017

On July 10, 2017, an officer stopped a vehicle for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. The driver was identified as Christopher Perez, a 32-year-old Grand Rapids man, whose license was currently suspended. The officer re-approached the vehicle and found Perez chewing a green leafy substance later identified as marijuana.


City parking lot and several streets closed this weekend for Classic Car Show

A City parking lot and several streets will be closed this weekend to accommodate the Classic Car and Motorcycle Show presented by the Home Builders Association of Central Michigan.


Youth Services Unit celebrates 17 years of youth police academy

Several City parks closed and events canceled following flood
June 27, 2017

Due to extensive flood damage, the City of Mt. Pleasant has closed all of Island Park and Nelson Park, as well as portions of several other City parks until further notice. Additionally, the USA Softball State Tournament scheduled for June 29-July 2 in locations throughout Mt. Pleasant has been canceled; and the Mt. Pleasant Farmers’ Market at Island Park is canceled for both Thursday, June 29 and Thursday, July 6.

The community is invited to feast on their favorite local Coney dogs while helping the youth of Isabella County at the 11th annual “Coneys for a Cause” on June 14 at the Pixie Restaurant. All net proceeds will benefit the Mt. Pleasant Police Youth Services Unit and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region.


Intersection at Washington and Michigan to become four-way stop

To improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists, the intersection at Washington and Michigan streets will be converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop on Wednesday, May 17


Prosecutor issues charges on hazing incident
April 10, 2017

On March 3, 2017, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department began an investigation into a hazing incident that took place in October of 2016. The incident transpired in the 600 block of S. Main Street at a non-recognized fraternity with no affiliation to Central Michigan University.


Beaverton man leads police on chase after causing an accident
March 28, 2017

On March 27, 2017, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Mt. Pleasant police officers responded to a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Mission and High. A witness observed the accident and watched the suspect flee the scene. The witness provided Central Dispatch with the suspect’s vehicle information and the direction in which it was traveling. The suspect vehicle continued northbound on Mission Street and merged onto US-127. Mt. Pleasant officers located and attempted to stop the vehicle by activating their emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle continued northbound for about two miles before stopping. The driver was identified as Nathaniel Horn, a 21-year-old male from Beaverton.


Police seek suspects in Mt. Pleasant armed robbery
March 27, 2017

On March 26, 2017, at approximately 3:16 a.m., Mt. Pleasant police officers responded to an armed robbery at 718 S. Mission Street (Shell Gas Station). Police gathered evidence and interviewed the night clerk who gave a description of two suspects. The suspects are described as two black males. The first suspect is approximately 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a thin build. He was wearing a white ski mask and dark clothes, including a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. The first suspect acted as if he had a gun in his possession, but never mentioned a weapon or showed it.


Latham named captain of Mt. Pleasant Police Department

Andy Latham has been named captain of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department. Latham began his career with the City as an officer more than 20 years ago, and has since served as sergeant and lieutenant.


Mt. Pleasant man leads police on chase
February 28, 2017

On Feb. 26 at approximately 10:44 p.m., a Mt. Pleasant police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the intersection of Oak and Illinois. The driver, Audie Hawkins, a 26-year-old man from Mt. Pleasant, failed to stop. The vehicle made no attempt to slow down. It continued south on Oak, and then turned onto Locust. The suspect vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The officer identified the driver and the passenger of the vehicle. The passenger, Antonio Flores, a 31-year-old man from Mt. Pleasant, was told to stay in the vehicle. Flores exited the vehicle, went into a residence and locked the door. Eventually, the officer got Flores to exit the residence. Once Flores stepped out, a struggle ensued and Flores was taken into custody for Resisting and Obstructing.

February 17, 2017

On Feb. 17 at approximately 12:16 a.m., a Mt. Pleasant police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, Rolland Jackson, a 26-year-old man from Mt. Pleasant, failed to stop. A pursuit ensued along US-127 from Mt. Pleasant to the south end of the City of Clare. The vehicle was stopped when the Clare Police Department deployed spike strips, which successfully punctured three out of four tires. Jackson was taken into custody.

Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responds to structure fire
February 3, 2017

On Feb. 2, 2017 at approximately 7:13 p.m., the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 222 South Pine Street with two engines, a rescue truck and other support vehicles. The property is a two-story multifamily dwelling with three apartments. Units arriving on the scene found smoke showing from a second-story window. The fire was located in an apartment on the second floor.


Traffic stop leads to multiple arrests
January 23, 2017

On Jan. 22, 2017, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old Farwell man identified as Adam Dysinger. Dysinger had a restricted driver’s license and did not have insurance for the vehicle. Dysinger was taken into custody for driving with a restricted license and operating a vehicle without insurance. During a pat down, an officer found three needles in Dysinger’s possession.


Saugatuck man leads police on chase
January 23, 2017

On Jan. 22 at approximately 3:13 a.m., a City police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for suspicion of driving under the influence near the intersection of Broadway and Mission. The driver, Cody Bantien, a 26-year-old man from Saugatuck, failed to stop. A pursuit ensued for several miles until Bantien attempted to make an abrupt right turn and went into the ditch at the intersection of Pickard and Loomis. Bantien was taken into custody.


Lauria named City’s director of public safety; public reception scheduled for Feb. 13

Mt. Pleasant Police Capt. Paul Lauria has been named the City’s Director of Public Safety and Police Chief. Lauria will succeed longtime public safety leader Glenn Feldhauser after his retirement in February.


Flint man arrested for domestic assault
January 13, 2017

On Jan. 12, 2017 at approximately 10:45 a.m., the Mt. Pleasant Police responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Lyons Street following a 911 hang-up call. The home had a history of domestic violence calls. Prior to the officers’ arrival, the suspect fled the scene.


Foot pursuit ends in drug arrest
January 9, 2017

On Jan. 5, 2017 at approximately 2:44 pm, a Mt. Pleasant Police officer observed a man walking in the back parking lot of the Mt. Pleasant Public Safety building. The officer approached the man – later identified as William Gonzales, a 21-year-old from Mt. Pleasant – and asked why he was in the back parking lot. Gonzales started to back away and then ran from the officer. While running from the officer, a silver gun fell from Gonzales’ possession. The foot pursuit continued to Gaylord and Anna streets where Gonzales was apprehended.

Clearing snow from sidewalks in business districts; a reminder from the Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU)
November 21, 2016

It is the responsibility of the commercial property owner to remove snow from sidewalks in business districts within 18 hours after snow, sleet, or freezing rain fall, with the exception of Sundays and holidays (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day). In this case, snow must be cleaned by noon the day following the Sunday or holiday.

CMU ‘Greeks Clean the Streets’
October 2, 2016

25 student members of the Greek community at Central Michigan University joined the City of Mt. Pleasant’s Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU) on October 2 to clean the streets of the neighborhood north of Bellows Street. 30 bags of trash were collected from Bellows Street to High Street and from Douglas Street to Lansing Street.


‘Greeks Clean the Streets’ on Sunday, Oct. 2
September 30, 2016

The first “Greeks Clean the Streets” of the 2016-2017 school year will take place on Sunday, Oct. 2. Traditionally, approximately 70 students from the Central Michigan University Greek community spend a couple of hours picking up trash and debris in local neighborhoods. Up to 40 bags of trash are typically collected.


Suspect apprehended after brief pursuit - Update
September 26, 2016

On Sept. 23, 2016, at approximately 8:51 p.m., a Mt. Pleasant Police Officer attempted to stop a white minivan on Isabella Road just south of Pickard Street for the a traffic violation, at which time the suspect fled the scene and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The minivan turned westbound on Crosslanes Street and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The minivan failed to negotiate a T-intersection at Crosslanes and Kane Streets when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a house. The driver of the vehicle, fled on foot while the passenger of the vehicle was detained.

Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responds to residential structure fire
September 16, 2016

On Sept. 16 at 8:01 a.m., the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 1836 Woods Way with two engines, a rescue truck, an aerial ladder and other support vehicles. The property is a two-story residential structure. During our initial assessment of the scene we found fire conditions in a second-floor bedroom and extending through the roof at the rear of the home.

Seventy-one student members of the Greek community at Central Michigan University joined the City of Mt. Pleasant’s Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU) on August 28 to clean the streets of the neighborhood north of Bellows Street. Each year, fire departments across the country respond to emergencies resulting from the use of fireworks, including injuries, and wildland or structure fires. These incidents occur most often throughout the month surrounding the July Fourth holiday.


Ohio man arrested for felonious assault
June 21, 2016

On June 21, 2016 at approximately 1:40 a.m., the Mt. Pleasant Police Department received a report of a felonious assault in the parking lot of Park Place Apartments. While responding to the scene, an officer observed the suspect’s vehicle passing at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver, Jared Thrush, a 30-year-old Ohio man, as its sole occupant. While speaking with Thrush, the officer noticed signs of intoxication. Thrush told officers he had a loaded pistol in the vehicle, which officers recovered.


Hospital employee arrested for embezzlement

On May 31, 2016, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department began an investigation involving an employee of McLaren Central Michigan embezzling prescription medication.

Structure Fire Press Release
June 8, 2016

On June 8, 2016 at 6:47 pm the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 200 Walnut Street with 2 Engines a Ladder and Rescue truck and other support vehicles. The property is a 10,000 square foot masonry building used for storage. At 6:52 pm we arrived on scene and observed heavy smoke conditions coming from the building.


Police investigate stabbing incident
June 7, 2016

On June 6, at approximately 3 p.m., officers were dispatched to McLaren Hospital for a stabbing incident which allegedly took place near East Campus Drive and Broomfield Street. Officers interviewed the victim, a 29-year-old Blanchard man, who had a quarter inch stab wound to his right lower flank. The victim’s first account of the incident was a drug deal gone wrong, and he gave a description of a black male suspect. The victim also stated his girlfriend, a 22-year-old Blanchard woman, was a witness to the incident and dropped him off at the hospital.


16th annual Youth Police Academy accepting applications

Isabella County youth going into the sixth, seventh and eighth grades have the opportunity to learn more about the ethical, physical and day-to-day operations of law enforcement personnel in the Mt. Pleasant Police Department’s 16th annual Youth Police Academy. From July 11 to July 28, the free program will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays-Thursdays.


Man arrested for Criminal Sexual Conduct
May 25, 2016

On May 18, 2016, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, with the assistance of Children Protective Services, began an investigation of an alleged criminal sexual conduct complaint involving a child. The joint investigation revealed Christopher McGee, a 30-year-old Mt. Pleasant man, was inappropriately touching an eight-year-old child. Both McGee and the child were residing in the same household.


Mt. Pleasant Police Captain graduates from FBI National Academy
April 29, 2016

City of Mt. Pleasant Police Capt. Paul Lauria graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy this month at the FBI campus in Quantico, VA. Lauria was one of 230 law enforcement officers from 31 different countries chosen to attend the prestigious ten-week academy designed to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad.


CMU students honored at City Commission meeting for Greeks Clean the Streets program
April 28, 2016

The success of Greeks Clean the Streets – a partnership between the City of Mt. Pleasant and members of Central Michigan University’s Greek sororities and fraternities – was celebrated at the April 25 City Commission meeting. Approximately 100 students stood in the Commission Chambers of City Hall as Mayor Kathy Ling read a proclamation acknowledging the positive impact the groups have had on the community through the program.


Man arrested on child abuse charges
April 26, 2016

On April 24, at approximately 11:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Lyons Street in reference to a two-year-old having a possible seizure. Upon arrival, the child was having difficulty breathing and was transported to the hospital.


Accidental discharge of a firearm
April 20, 2016

At approximately 9:10 a.m. on April 19, officers were dispatched to the Fairfield Inn for a weapons complaint. Officers made contact with the Fairfield Inn manager who stated a guest accidentally discharged a firearm in her room. The guest – a 50-year-old Shelby Township woman – possessed a valid concealed pistol license.

For four consecutive years, Greek students from Central Michigan University have partnered with the City of Mt. Pleasant to volunteer their time to clean up the campus neighborhoods. As a result of their effort, the students help make the community a better and cleaner place to live.


Mt. Pleasant man driving moped leads police on chase

At approximately 9:09 p.m. on April 13, 2016, an officer on general patrol observed a moped driving on Oak Street. The moped was missing a registration sticker and the driver was not sitting on the moped properly.

Woman charged with embezzlement
March 22, 2016

On March 17, 2016, an officer investigated an embezzlement case filed by B’s music. An employee, Sara Jamison, a 25 year old Mt. Pleasant woman, had been accused of stealing money. The manager stated the employee had taken about $4,900 dollars over the course of 10 weeks.

March 21, 2016

At about 2:17 p.m. on March 19, 2016; officers were investigating a trespassing complaint in the 1100 block of East Michigan. The victim observed the suspect vehicle drive past the residence while the officers were on scene. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver fled the scene. The driver, Brett Finch, a 39 year-old man from Mt. Pleasant, failed to stop. A short pursuit ensued, the suspect exited the vehicle and ran into a residence in the 1600 block of Chippewa Way.


Greeks Clean the Streets
March 21, 2016

66 student members from the Greek community at Central Michigan University and the City of Mt. Pleasant came together on March 20, 2016 to clean the streets in the student residential neighborhoods. 40 bags of trash were collected from Bellows Street to High Street and from Douglas Street to Lansing Street.


St. Patrick’s Day results in 8 arrest and 22 tickets issued
March 18, 2016

St. Patrick’s Day festivities started out uneventful but quickly turned into a busy night for Mt. Pleasant police officers. Officers responded to a number of complaints into early Friday morning. Statistics show that from Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 7:00 am until Friday, March 18, 2016 at 7:00 am, police received 158 calls for service, arrested 8 people, and wrote 22 tickets for offenses including disorderly conduct, MIP, open intox, and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.


St. Patrick’s Day Tips

St. Patrick's Day is a chance to celebrate Irish heritage, the color green, and a time for fun with friends and family. Many will be wearing green T-shirts, leprechaun hats and shamrock socks for a day of celebration. If you are going out for St. Patrick’s Day or planning a house party, be sure to have a plan in place.


Deer cull
February 11, 2016

On February 10, 2016, a deer cull was completed within the park system owned, operated, and maintained by the City of Mt. Pleasant. A total of 10 deer were harvested. All harvested venison will be donated to local charitable organizations.


Traffic stop leads to drug arrest
January 25, 2016

On the evening of January 24, 2016, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kevin Lamont Combs, a 41 year old Detroit man, with a suspended driver’s license. Combs was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license. During a pat down, officers discovered two bags of cocaine weighing a total of 14.5 grams, one bag of marijuana weighing 2.7 grams, and a bag containing 8 amphetamine pills.


Vehicle pursuit updated
January 25, 2016

On January 24, 2016 at around 11:00 am, Mt. Pleasant Officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit. An officer observed a vehicle from a “Be on the Lookout” (BOL) on Pickard Road near US 127. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle for not having a license, at which time the suspect fled the scene and a vehicle pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the suspect fired a handgun out of the vehicle. North of the City of Clare, Clare County Deputies were able to deploy spike strips on the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was taken into custody.

On Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 7:46 am, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at Central Concrete Products located at 900 S. Bradley Street.


Broadway Theatre now safe for use following carbon monoxide leak
December 15, 2015

On Monday, Dec. 14, final repairs were made to the heating system at the Broadway Theatre. The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department conducted two separate inspections and recorded no presence of carbon monoxide.


Local children to ‘Shop-With-A-Cop’

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department, in partnership with Walmart, will once again help local children selected by area schools purchase gifts for their families during Shop-With-A-Cop on Dec. 8.


Road rage incident leads to arrest for aggravated assault
December 4, 2015

On the evening of Dec. 3, 2015, Mt. Pleasant Police investigated a complaint of a road rage incident that turned into an aggravated assault in the 400 block of W. Cherry in the City of Mt. Pleasant.


Carbon monoxide leak at Broadway Theatre
December 2, 2015

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, after multiple people reported similar flu-like symptoms at McLaren Central Michigan, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department received a call from Isabella County Central Dispatch regarding a possible carbon monoxide release at the Broadway Theatre. We responded to the establishment at 10:04 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant police warn of a Publishers Clearing House scam

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department wants to warn the public of a Publishers Clearing House scam. Residents have reported receiving calls from a Midland phone number claiming they are winners of a sum of money through Publishers Clearing House, but they must first send the caller money in order to claim their winnings.


Mt. Pleasant police investigate fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct allegation

On Oct. 20, 2015, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department began investigating an allegation of a subcontracted driver of the licensed limo service, U-Ride Taxi, inappropriately touching another subcontracted driver of U-Ride. The victim reported a driver of the service touched her inappropriately during a ride on Oct. 19, 2015. With the help of U-Ride, it was determined Sid Tutewiler, a 43-year-old white male from Mt. Pleasant, was the driver in question.


CMU Greeks clean the streets

Thirty-three Central Michigan University (CMU) students, 24 of who are members of CMU’s Greek community, came together on Oct. 4 to clean the streets of the student residential neighborhoods. Forty-four bags of trash were collected from Bellows Street to High Street, and from Douglas Street to Lansing Street.

‘Greeks Clean the Streets’ slated for Oct. 4

On Sunday, Oct. 4, “Greeks Clean the Streets” for the second time this school year. Four years ago, the City of Mt. Pleasant established a partnership with the Greek community at Central Michigan University. Greek students volunteer their time to clean up the campus neighborhoods. As a result of their dedicated time and effort, they help make the community a better and cleaner place to live.


Weapons Charge
September 24, 2015

On September 23, 2015, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Mt. Pleasant Police officers responded to a fight at the Burger King parking lot. Central Dispatch updated responding officers that one of the suspects was brandishing a handgun. The suspect possessing the firearm, attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle which was stopped at the intersection of Mission and Broomfield.


Fatal Accident
September 17, 2015

On September 17, 2015, at approximately 2:23 p.m., the Mt. Pleasant Police responded to a two car accident on High Street near Henry Street. A truck traveling westbound on High Street, driven by a seventy-nine-year-old Mt. Pleasant man, crossed the center line and hit a vehicle head on traveling eastbound on High Street, which was being driven by a seventy-nine-year-old Weidman woman. The Weidman woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is not being released until the family has been notified.

Greeks Clean the Streets – 53 student members from the Greek community at Central Michigan University and the City of Mt. Pleasant came together on August 30, 2015 to clean the streets in the student residential neighborhoods. 66 bags of trash were collected from Bellows Street to High Street and from Douglas Street to Lansing Street.

Hit and Run Accident
August 29, 2015

On August 29, 2015, at approximately 2:11 am, the Mt. Pleasant Police responded to a car/pedestrian accident at the intersection of South Washington and Cherry Street. A twenty-two year old Flint man was struck by a black sedan while crossing South Washington Street. The sedan fled the scene northbound on Washington Street. The Flint man is currently being treated at the hospital for his injuries.

Youth Services Unit celebrates 15 years of youth police academy

The Youth Services Unit will host its 15th annual summer youth police academy July 13-30 with 29 new students from Isabella County participating in the three-week program.

Mt. Pleasant Police are asking the public for any additional information regarding an attempted abduction that took place Wednesday July 8, 2015 around 8:40 pm in the area of Crapo and Preston. A female victim was walking her dog in the area when a male subject driving a vehicle pulled alongside her to ask a question. As the woman approached the vehicle, the male suspect grabbed her arm. The female freed herself and got away to safety. Police searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect or vehicle.The Mt. Police find missing man
June 18, 2015

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department located the body of Joshua VanHorn this morning. Officers walking the bank of the Chippewa River discovered VanHorn’s body in the water. The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department along with the Isabella County dive team recovered the body from the river.


Missing Person
June 17, 2015

The Department of Public Safety is seek the public help in locating a missing person from Mt. Pleasant.  Mr Joshua VanHorn, a 25 year old Mt. Pleasant man, went missing last light around 8 pm.  Vanhorn was last seen at Nelson park around 8 pm wear a black tank top with a skull on the front and back of the shirt and camouflage shorts.

Update: The search has been suspended for the night and will resume Thursday morning.

Shepherd man leads police on chase
June 2, 2015

At about 1:39 a.m. today, a City police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver, Curtis Porter, a 25-year-old man from Shepherd, failed to stop. A short pursuit ensued, until the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

Structure Fire Press Release

On 5/4/15 at 2:29 am the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 1046 E. Maple Street with 3 Engines a Rescue truck and other support vehicles. The property is a 2 story occupied residential structure. Initial arriving units found heavy smoke and fire conditions from the rear of the structure and from the roof.

Mt. Pleasant man arrested for possession of a firearm
April 27, 2015

Mt. Pleasant Police officers investigated a complaint on April 26, 2015, of a man going through cars at CME Mitsuba Corp, located at 2945 Three Leaves Drive. Officers searched the area and found a 40-year-old Mt. Pleasant man going through vehicles. They attempted to make contact with the suspect and he ran away. After a short foot chase, the man was taken into custody.


CMU student arrested on arson charges

Mt. Pleasant Police officers arrested a 21-year- old Central Michigan University student from Wyandotte today on charges of arson and disorderly conduct. The charges stem from a fire investigation on April 18 at the intersection of Franklin and Gaylord streets. Officers were investigating a “house crawl” event, which was promoted on twitter over the weekend.

At about 1:30 a.m. today, a City police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for an expired plate. The driver, April McMullen, a 32-year-old woman from Mt. Pleasant, failed to stop. After a short pursuit, she finally pulled over at Broadway and Livingston streets.

Officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, with the assistance of the Michigan State Police, arrested Mary Bigford, a 52 yr old Lake woman, at her home on Saturday April 18, 2015, without incident. Bigford is currently lodged at the Isabella County Jail on charges of Homicide-Murder First Degree, Homicide-Open Murder, Weapons- Dangerous Weapon, Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, and Weapons-Felony Firearm. Bigford is being held without bond.

Homicide in Mt. Pleasant
April 18, 2015

Officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, and with the assistance of the Michigan State Police, arrested the suspect involved in the homicide. This evening, officers took a 52 year old Lake woman into custody and lodged her at the Isabella County Jail. She will be arraigned Monday, April 20, 2015, on open murder charges.

On Saturday, April 18, 2015, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to the 3700 Block of South Isabella road for a report of a shooting. This incident transpired in the parking lot of the Chase Run apartment building complex. Officers found a 39 year old Fenton man deceased in his vehicle, from multiple gunshot wounds. The scene was processed by the Michigan State Crime Lab and officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.


Mt. Pleasant man arrested on car larceny charges
April 15, 2015

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department investigated a complaint of a car larceny today in the area of Cooley and Elm streets. Officers Standen and Straus searched the area and found Zachary Riggs, a 23-year-old Mt. Pleasant man, in a vehicle. The investigation revealed that Riggs had broken into at least five vehicles and possibly more.


Forty bags of trash collected during ‘Greeks Clean the Streets’

Staff from the City of Mt. Pleasant partnered with 66 students from the Greek sorority and fraternity community at Central Michigan University Sunday to clean the streets in the student residential neighborhoods. Forty bags of trash were collected from Bellows to High streets and from Douglas to Lansing streets. This was the largest group in the four-year history of the event.


St. Patrick’s Day results in 10 arrest and 19 tickets issued

St. Patrick’s Day festivities started out uneventful but quickly turned into a busy night for Mt. Pleasant police officers, who responded to a number of complaints into Wednesday morning. From midnight until about 7 a.m., police received 165 calls for service, arrested 10 people and wrote 19 tickets for disorderly conduct, MIP, open intox, and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.


Apartment fire results in $60,000 loss

Fifteen firefighters from the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department responded to 4075 S. Isabella Road at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday for an apartment fire. Upon arrival, the multi-story, multifamily dwelling was billowing with smoke and fire from a second story apartment.

Snow tracks lead to arrests in west side larceny cases

On Feb. 25, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department investigated several complaints of car larcenies in the 1200 block of Bruce Street. Officers tracked footprints spanning over 12 blocks, crossing several busy roadways, which led to a residence where two Mecosta County men were arrested after an investigation.


Clearing snow from sidewalks in business districts

Reminder from the Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU)
It is the responsibility of the commercial property owner to remove snow from sidewalks in business districts within 18 hours after snow, sleet, or freezing rain fall, with the exception of Sundays and holidays (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day). In this case, snow must be cleaned by noon the day following the Sunday or holiday. If the snow or ice is too hard to remove, the owner must spread enough sand or other abrasive to make travel safe, and, as soon as weather permits, must clear a path of at least 48 inches in width.
