Parks & Recreation 2013 fall programs: Information and deadlines

September 30, 2013 - Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation heads into fall with these upcoming programs and events.

Youth Volleyball
The registration deadline for Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation Youth Volleyball is October 4. The kindergarten through 2nd grade program will be held on Sunday afternoons beginning November 3 at Morey Courts. The fee is $40 for city residents and $50 for non-residents. The 2rd through 6th grade volleyball league begins the week of October 21. Participants practice once a week and games are held on Sunday afternoons beginning November 3 at Morey Courts. The fee is $50 for city residents and $60 for non-residents.

Volunteer coaches are needed for the volleyball program; background checks are required.

Youth Bowling Club
Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation is accepting registration for Youth Bowling Club which begins October 19. Youth Bowling Club will be held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Riverwood Bowling Center, 1313 E. Broomfield. The fee is $50 for city residents and $60 for non-residents. Those who register by October 4 will save $5.

Bowlers practice with a coach the first two weeks and focus on the fundamentals of bowling: hand placement, approach, aim, scoring and bowling etiquette. Teams will be formed and bowlers will compete with friends during Saturday morning games starting on November 2.

Volunteer coaches are needed for Youth Bowling Club; background checks are required.

Start Smart™ Basketball
Start Smart™ Basketball is a program designed to teach boys and girls ages three to five the fundamentals of basketball. As part of the Start Smart™ program, emphasis is placed on children’s development of basic motor skills and good sportsmanship necessary to achieve success and confidence for a lifetime of physical activity. The program uses innovative and safe sports technology to assist parents in developing their children’s skills such as dribbling, catching and shooting.

Registration is open now through October 30. The cost is $40 for city residents and $55 for non-residents; register by October 9 and save $10. The program will run from November 6 to December 18.

Youth Dodgeball
Registrations are currently being accepted for Youth Dodgeball for boys and girls aged 8 to 12. Players ages 8 and 9 will learn the game of dodgeball through fun variations of the game played weekly. Players ages 10 to 12 will be structured as a league with participants placed on teams.  All participants receive t-shirt with program.

Mom & Son Golf Scramble
Moms and their sons can tee up and take a swing while spending quality time together at the Mom & Son Golf Scramble. This event will be held October 12 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Riverwood Resort, 1313 E. Broomfield. The day will begin with a range clinic followed by brunch and nine holes of golf. Participants can bring their own golf clubs or if they do not have their own, they will be supplied.

Advance registration is required by October 9. The cost is $25 per person for city residents and $30 per person for non-residents and includes: range clinic, nine holes of golf with a cart, brunch, fun and wacky games and prize giveaways.
