Michigan ASA Girls’ Softball State Championship Tournament slides into mid-Michigan

June 11, 2013 - Thousands of players, families and coaches will visit the Mt. Pleasant area June 27 MASAthrough 30 as the City of Mt. Pleasant's Parks and Recreation Department once again hosts the Michigan Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Girls' Fastpitch State Tournament.

The tournament will feature 156 teams from several age groups, including 10 and under; 12 and under; 14 and under; 16 and under; and 18 and under. The winning team from each age group will continue on to the prestigious ASA National Fast Pitch Tournament. The fields utilized during this four-day event include: Island Park, Pickens Fields, Mt. Pleasant High School, Central Michigan University, Union Township, Sacred Heart, and The City of Midland's Optimist and Emerson Parks.

"We are very excited to have this group of athletes competing in our area," said City of Mt. Pleasant Recreation Director Riaan Anthony. "With our outstanding recreation facilities, knowledgeable support staff and excellent accommodations, attractions and restaurants, we are certain the teams will enjoy their time in Mt. Pleasant and Midland.”

The ASA tournament is expected to bring several hundred bookings for area hotels, along with a significant increase in business for restaurants, retail stores and area attractions.

Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation also will host the tournament again in 2014. Next year's tournament will be held June 26 through 29.
