2017 pavement marking project to begin Monday; City parking lots downtown closed Aug. 13

City parking lots downtown Mt. Pleasant will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 13 for the application of new pavement markings. Six of these lots will be marked for additional ADA accessible parking spaces.

City to provide special heavy item collection July 1;

In response to the flooding event, the City of Mt. Pleasant is offering its residents and property owners a special curbside collection of water-damaged heavy items on Saturday, July 1. Disposal instructions are as follows:


Roadwork along portions of Three Leaves and Denison to begin June 19
June 16, 2017

Beginning June 19, construction work will begin along Three Leaves Drive from Deerfield Road to Denison Drive, and along Denison from Three Leaves to West Campus Drive. The roads within the project limits will be closed to through traffic. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes. Access for local traffic will be maintained.


Intersection at Washington and Michigan to become four-way stop

To improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists, the intersection at Washington and Michigan streets will be converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop on Wednesday, May 17


Pickard Road Bridge project to begin June 5
May 11, 2017

The City will begin construction work on the Pickard Road Bridge on June 5. The project will include removing and replacing the bridge deck, sidewalk, concrete approaches and railings. The project is anticipated to be complete by Aug. 11.


City to offer free brush chipping service beginning in June
May 8, 2017

The City has allocated funds to provide approximately 400 households with 30 minutes of complimentary brush chipping beginning in June. The service is first come, first served, and residents must make a reservation by contacting the Division of Public Works.


City to pick up Christmas trees Jan. 3 – 13
December 22, 2016

Residents may place their discarded Christmas trees curbside for collection Jan. 3-13, 2017. Trees will be collected on weekdays and the service is free of charge.


City reminds residents of overnight parking laws

The City of Mt. Pleasant is reminding residents of the following overnight parking regulations:


Clearing snow from sidewalks in business districts; a reminder from the Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU)
November 21, 2016

It is the responsibility of the commercial property owner to remove snow from sidewalks in business districts within 18 hours after snow, sleet, or freezing rain fall, with the exception of Sundays and holidays (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day). In this case, snow must be cleaned by noon the day following the Sunday or holiday.

Residents who live within the City limits may begin raking leaves over the curb the week of Monday, Oct. 17. Leaves should be raked into the street along the curb or to the shoulder in uncurbed areas. Residents are asked to rake the leaves into small piles over the curb, and not cover the storm sewer catch basins.


Public open house March 17 for proposed US-127 BR roundabout in Mt. Pleasant

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host a public open house to discuss work planned for the intersection of US-127 Business Route (BR) at North Mission Road in 2017. The project includes intersection improvements and construction of a roundabout.

Mt. Pleasant Adopts Complete Streets Ordinance
July 15, 2015

Consistent with the community’s status as one of the most walkable and bikeable in the State of Michigan, the City of Mt. Pleasant has passed a Complete Streets ordinance, the 26th Michigan community to do so to date. Adopted unanimously by the City Commission on June 22, the ordinance ensures that the planning of capital projects within the community will include, from the outset, the design elements necessary to provide for the needs of all legal roadway users.


Main and Washington Streets Conversion to Two-Way
July 9, 2015

The project to convert Main and Washington Streets to two-way streets is scheduled to begin on July 20th and be completed by August 11th. The conversion project will include on street parking on one side of the street, and through the use of signage and sharrows (shared lane bicycle markings), both bikes and cars will share the two 10-foot lanes.


City of Mt. Pleasant Surplus Equipment Auction

The City of Mt. Pleasant will conduct a surplus equipment auction of both City and Isabella County-owned items on eBay beginning Friday, May 15, 2015, and running continually until all items are sold.

As the weather turns warmer and spring yard clean-up begins, the City’s Street Department would like to remind residents not to place yard waste or leaves in the street gutter or on the right-of-way. The City does not offer leaf collection services in the spring.


Downtown to replace more trees

Downtown Mt. Pleasant is scheduled to continue the replacement of dead and diseased with a variety of new trees in an effort to clean up and expand the tree canopy planted more than 15 years ago.

City resumes alley-side refuse and recycling pickup

The City Commission has decided to resume collection of refuse and recycling in most alleys. If you live adjacent to an alley, beginning March 2, place your refuse and recycling bin(s) in the alley for collection. Some alleys are exempt because they are privately owned, have dead ends, or a sharp 90-degree turn. You can view a full list of the exempt alleys below. If you live along one of the exempt alleys, please continue to place your refuse and recycling at the street curbside. Your collection date has not changed. Click on the header to view the announcement and list of exempt alleys.


Seasonal collection reminders

Christmas trees (free of all decorations, tinsel, plastic bags and other items) can be placed at the curb, cut-end to the curb, between Dec. 29 and Jan. 9. Wreaths will not be picked up.

Curb replacement will take place at the intersection of Eastpointe Drive and Sweeney Street from approximately 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13 to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14.

The entire intersection will be closed to traffic during this time.
