2014 construction season kicks off
New sidewalks, lights; Broadway Street reconstruction on tap
April 7, 2014 - The City of Mt. Pleasant Engineering Department is getting ready for a busy construction season this spring and summer. Various projects are planned throughout the City.
One major street project that will take place beginning in June is the reconstruction of Broadway Street between Bradley and Harris Streets. The reconstruction work includes the removal of the existing pavement, curb and gutter, installation of new storm sewer structures, reconstruction of the street, and paving of all drive approaches in the area from the street to the sidewalk. The water main also will be replaced.
Installation of new sidewalks to fill gaps in existing walking routes throughout the City also will take place this year. Several areas where sidewalks suddenly stop and start back up again were identified as areas for new sidewalks.
Pedestrian lighting, similar to the lights along Main Street, will be installed on Washington Street between Bellows and High Streets. The project will likely begin this spring.
