Police Records Supervisor

The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking candidates with a high level of personal and professional integrity and confidentiality, knowledge of the legal system, and strong proven leadership skills to manage the professionals and operations within our Department of Public Safety Records Division. Experience in Law Enforcement Records, Office Management, Supervision, Microsoft Suite, Freedom of Information Act (F.O.I.A.) and Records Management Systems is preferred.

This salaried, exempt, at-will position is under the direction of the Assistant Police Chief and serves as the Supervisor to all police records Office Professionals in the Department of Public Safety for the City of Mt. Pleasant. There is also a Fire Department Office Professional who is included in the Records team meetings and assists with coverage, but reports to the Fire Chief. As a member of the department's leadership team and within the guidance of the department and City's mission statement, this individual is responsible for the management, coordination of the daily functions, goals and objectives, and technical advancements within the Records Division. This position will also serve as the F.O.I.A. Officer for the Department of Public Safety and is jointly responsible for protecting and preserving the assets of the City of Mt. Pleasant and its citizens.

Successful candidates will be a strong leader, with a proven breadth and depth of knowledge in public legal records processes and systems. The candidate will have a positive attitude, be a patient mentor, have strong communication and computer skills, be open to input from staff, work to resolve problems in a collaborative and inclusive manner, and lead by example. Due to the nature of the work, a high level of attention to detail is critical, as well as sound organizational skill with an ability to prioritize work and delegate assignments. The Police Records Supervisor and staff are frequently exposed to information about crimes; some are cruel, disturbing, and violent offenses. Pictures and/or audio of the crimes must be processed by this department and the Police Records Supervisor must be able to cope with and help others cope with these emotional and graphically difficult situations.

The position requires Associate of Arts Degree in Office Management Systems, Records Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 3 years supervisory experience is preferred; 2 years civilian experience in law enforcement or a legal environment is required. Additional knowledge in software systems including: Microsoft Suite, Michigan Criminal Justice Information Network (MiCJIN), Sex Offenders Registry (MSOR), Michigan Incident Crime Report (MICR), Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), Karpel, TIMS, LEIN, TALON and Central Square, is preferred.

Mt. Pleasant is a growing and financially stable community located in the geographic center of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. We are a warm and friendly community dedicated to retaining our small-town traditions while building a vital economy. The area population officially stands at 21,688 but can swell to two or three times that number due to special events and the approximate 30,000 daily visitors to the Soaring Eagle Resort and Casino located at the east City limits.

We are also home to Central Michigan University's 15,000 plus students and many of its employees. CMU offers more than 170 programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Specialist Degree levels, as well as their Medical School. Mid-Michigan College's Mt. Pleasant Campus is an option for those who wish to transfer to a university or prepare for a career in health, business, or industrial technologies. Five other colleges and/or universities are within 45 miles of Mt. Pleasant. This community is dedicated to education and offers seven neighborhood schools, one middle school, and two high schools. There is also one parochial and two charter schools.

The Mt. Pleasant community provides an abundance of recreational and cultural opportunities ranging from hockey to chamber music concerts. Golfers are especially pleased with the 13 courses available within a 30-minute drive. The City Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide range of recreational programs for all ages, including youth soccer, softball, golf, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. The City operates and maintains 11 parks comprising 300 acres, offering venues for picnicking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. The Isabella County park system adds another 900 acres with similar opportunities as well as camping and cross-country skiing.

This position is part of the Professional, Administrative, Confidential and Technical (PACT) employee non-union group, as such the City of Mt. The staring salary range for this position is high $50's to mid-$60's, depending on qualifications.
