Voter and Election Information

The City Clerk's office conducts all Federal, State and local elections held in the City and is responsible for the entire voting process, including; registering qualified voters, maintaining the voter registration files, hiring and training all election workers under their control, issuing absentee ballots for elections, keeping abreast of, and implementing, any new election laws, and ensuring the integrity of the voting process.

2022 Election Schedule

Special Election
  • Election Date: Tuesday, May 3, 2022
  • Last day to register to vote by mail:  Monday, April 18, 2022
    Individuals who register to vote within the 14-day period immediately preceding an election must appear in person at their city or township clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.
  • City Commission Openings: One (1) seat available on the City Commission for a partial term ending December 31, 2023. Commissioner William Joseph has resigned from his position.
  • City Commission Packet Filing:  Monday, December 20, 2021 through 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Packets are available at the City Clerk’s Office, 320 W. Broadway St., Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858.
State Primary
  • Election Date: Tuesday, August 2, 2022
  • Last day to register to vote by mail:  Monday, July 18, 2022
    Individuals who register to vote within the 14-day period immediately preceding an election must appear in person at their city or township clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.
State General
  • Election Date: Tuesday, November 8, 2022
  • Last day to register to vote by mail:  Monday, October 24, 2022
    Individuals who register to vote within the 14-day period immediately preceding an election must appear in person at their city or township clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.
  • City Commission Openings: Two (2) seats available on the City Commission for the three year term of January 1, 2023 - December 31, 2025. Commissioners Mary Alsager and George Ronan terms are expiring on December 31, 2022.
  • City Commission Packet Filing:  Monday, June 27, 2022 through 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Packets are available at the City Clerk’s Office, 320 W. Broadway St., Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858.

Due to the passage of the statewide ballot proposal 18-3 in November, all eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absent voter ballot without providing a reason.

City of Mt. Pleasant Voting Precincts

City residents can determine the voting precinct in which they vote by checking their voter registration card;  at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/; or by calling the City Clerk’s Office at (989)779-5361.

The City of Mt. Pleasant precinct locations are:

  • Precinct 1 - Ganiard Elementary School, 101 S. Adams St.
  • Precinct 2 - Kinney Elementary School, 720 North Kinney Street
  • Precinct 3 - Pullen Elementary School, 251 S. Brown St.
  • Precinct 4 - Fancher Elementary School, 801 South Kinney Avenue
  • Precinct 5 - Vowles Elementary School, 1560 South Watson Street
