Engineering Department

The Engineering Department oversees sanitary sewer, storm sewer, parking lots, sidewalks, water mains, small buildings, and street projects. This department inspects all work before a project is deemed completed.

 

Right-Of-Way Work Permits Required:

  • The Engineering Department reviews site plans, and inspects and records all construction completed within the City's right-of-way. These projects include, but are not limited to, water or sewer line replacement, driveway approaches, storm sewer projects, sidewalk construction, and tree planting.

Water Permit:

  • Required for installation or replacement of a water service, or water main.

Records available to residents include:

  • Utility locations
  • Construction plans are available for the streets, storm sewers, water mains, sidewalks, and sanitary sewers throughout the City. Detailed plans are not always available due to age.
  • Plat maps showing property boundaries and aerial topographic maps.
  • A geographic information system (GIS) is available for residents to obtain additional information.

2023 Construction Projects



Construction projects take place throughout the City of Mt. Pleasant annually in order to maintain and improve the City's infrastructure. Updates on these projects will be posted to this page, and also are communicated through door hangers and letters (for residents directly affected by projects), local media, along with the City's Facebook and Twitter pages.

 

Alley Reconstruction

Due to budget restrictions, this project has been canceled for 2023 and will be rebid in early 2024.

Asphalt Crack Sealing (May 1 - May 13)

Various streets will be crack sealed as part of the preventative maintenance program.

City Hall Retaining Wall and Sidewalk Replacement

The City Hall retaining walls will be replaced at the employee parking lot on the southwest side of the building along with city sidewalk replacement work on the north side of Broadway Street.

Local Street Reconstruction (June 1 - August 2)

Gaylord Street between Washington and University Streets, and Palmer Street between Main and University Streets will be reconstructed. The projects include removal and replacement of the existing asphalt, road base, curb and sidewalk, replacement of the handicap access ramps, and some storm sewer work.

Major Street Projects

No Major Street projects are scheduled for 2023.

Overlays (May 30 - July 8)

A new layer of asphalt will be applied to the following streets and alleys as part of the preventative maintenance program.

Bellows – Mission to Crapo
Greenfield – Michigan to dead-end
N. Mackenzie – Lyndale to Mackenzie
S. Mackenzie – Smalley to Mackenzie
Main – Illinois to High
Michigan – Williams to Smalley
Preston – Crawford to Glen
Smalley – Michigan to dead-end
Tomah – Forest to Center
Washington – Preston to Broomfield
Watson – High to Preston
Wendrow – Greenbanks to Highland
Mission Alley – Locust to Wisconsin
Mission Alley – Illinois to Michigan

Pavement Markings (Paint Markings) (September 6 - 21)

Various streets throughout the City will receive new paint markings.

Sidewalk (April 17 - May 25)

Replacement sidewalk will be completed for reported complaint locations. New sidewalk will be installed on the south side of Burch Street from Bradley to Adams Streets.

Storm Sewer Extension and Improvement (July 10 - August 19)

Storm sewer will be extended on Anna Street from Broadway to the dead end for properties that currently do not have direct access to the storm water collection system.
