Water Department

The Water Treatment Plant (WTP) treats and pumps water to the city water distribution system for fire protection and delivery to customers on a seven day-a-week basis. Staff is available 24 hours per day to respond to emergencies. The actual operating hours of the plant vary with the system's water demand. The plant operates under the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and USEPA regulations to ensure that public health requirements are met.

The Water Department staff are responsible for the operation and repair of the equipment, as well as the installation, operation, and maintenance of the system's water mains, valves, service leads, meters, and hydrants. The staff also performs laboratory testing required for quality control and to meet state and federal guidelines.

Department staff responds to customer emergencies and inquiries for service and locates water mains for contractors under the Miss Dig System.
