Registration deadline approaching for the 13th annual Youth Police Academy

June 6, 2013 -- Isabella County youth going into sixth, seventh and eighth grade have the opportunity to learn more about the ethical, physical and day-to-day operations of law enforcement personnel in the Mt. Pleasant Police Department’s 13th annual Youth Police Academy. The deadline to register is June 10.

From July 29 to August 15, cadets will gain insight into a career in law enforcement through hands-on activities such as building searches, defensive tactics and emergency response demonstrations. These activities focus on the development of character, discipline and team building skills.

“The Youth Police Academy gives a taste of what we go through every day,” said Sgt. Andy Latham of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department. “It gives students the chance to be mentored by police officers, gain skills and build trust in a safe and fun environment.”

The Youth Police Academy is a free program led by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department’s Youth and Community Service Unit. Registration is limited to 30 participants. The academy takes place Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To register, download the application here. For more information, contact the Youth and Community Services Unit at 989-779-5135.
