Halloween safety tips from the Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU)
Trick-or-treating in the City of Mt. Pleasant is scheduled for October 31, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Before heading down the trick-or-treat trail, the Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU) encourages the community to remember the following tips to keep your family safe:

- Remain on well-lit streets and always use the sidewalks
- Only go to homes with a porch light on and never enter a home or car for a treat
- Walk on the sidewalk whenever possible; if there's no sidewalk, walk on the side of the road facing traffic
- Don't criss-cross back and forth across the street; work your way up one side of the street and then start on the other
- Cross the street at established crosswalks and look both ways before crossing the road
- Only accept packaged or wrapped candy
- Don't eat any treats before you get home; once home, parents should look through the treats to make sure everything is okay
- A parent or responsible adult should always accompany young children on their neighborhood rounds
- Carry a flashlight or glow stick
- Bring along a cell phone in case you need to make an emergency phone call
- Let your parents know where you're going to be at all times
- Always travel in groups, preferably of three or more people
