Citizens' Academy of Mt. Pleasant

The Citizens’ Academy of Mt. Pleasant (CAMP) is designed to provide people who live, work or own a business in the City of Mount Pleasant an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the structure and functions of their city government.

The program is free and dinner is provided.

Each session offers an in-depth look at the fundamentals of the City’s administration and budget; public works and utilities; parks and recreation; public safety; and community development. Additional topics covered will include the basics of local government, elections, and more.

Graduates of the Academy are honored at a City Commission meeting following the completion of the program.

The Citizens’ Academy is an ideal program for business owners, community leaders, City residents, current or potential future appointed or elected officials, and students with an interest in local affairs.

Participants will increase their knowledge of City operations while demonstrating their commitment to the community, networking with fellow community members, engaging with City staff and becoming better equipped to help shape the future of the community.

The City is not currently accepting applications for Citizens’ Academy. If you have any questions about the program or would like to be added to the notification list for the next Citizens’ Academy (starting February 2023), please contact William R. Mrdeza, Director of Community Services & Economic Development, at (989) 779-5311 or
